Aurora Rise Launches Campaign for New License Plate

Aurora Rise has begun a campaign to have a new Group Special License Plate created for the State of Colorado.

Aurora Rise intends that the proceeds from the specialty license plate surcharge go to the state’s Victim Compensation Fund.

The plate needs at least 3,000 signatures from Colorado vehicle owners before it can be submitted to the Department of Revenue, Division of Motor Vehicles, for approval in order to move on to the State Legislature. To make your commitment, please go to www.aurorarise.org/werise.

Aurora Rise is a nonprofit that was created in response to the Aurora theater shooting on July 20, 2012. The group has worked to help the victims of the shooting by raising funds as well as honor the memory of those we lost. This effort is a natural extension of those goals.

While Aurora Rise has, and will continue to, directly support theatre shooting survivors, proceeds collected from the plate will support other victims of crime in Colorado.

The proposed license plate design has a blue/navy blue ribbon, which is often used for victim’s rights. In the sky are 13 stars in the sky commemorating the 12 people killed and one unborn that were lost on July 20, 2012.

Please note the license plate design has not been finalized. The final license plate design is to be completed upon the enactment of the Bill and after the Department of Revenue, Division of Motor Vehicles, designating a nonprofit.

In the center of the ribbon is “WE RISE.” Not only does this have meaning for those associated with the theater, but for anyone recovering from the aftermath of a criminal’s actions.
